Unveiling Ethical Codes from the Shadows
Hami Taheri was recognised as the 2025 Champion of Courage – Ethical Courage for her determination to bring ethical awareness and dialogue into the Persian coaching community, helping to illuminate professional standards that had long remained overlooked or unspoken.
A PhD scholar, facilitator, translator, and co-leader of the Coaching Science Community, Hami integrates neuroscience and behavioural science into her coaching practice while actively supporting cross-cultural dialogue within the global coaching profession. Guided by the belief that “coaching is a lifestyle rather than a career,” her work focuses on deepening coaching mastery and strengthening ethical awareness across communities.
Recognising that ethical codes were rarely revisited or discussed within her coaching community, Hami began speaking openly about the importance of ethical standards in practice. Coaches often encountered ethical principles during training, yet those principles frequently faded from everyday dialogue and decision-making.
Determined to shift this pattern, she organised an international webinar during International Coaching Week to introduce ethical reflection to the Persian coaching community at a broader scale. She also encouraged coaches to engage with global professional conversations, connecting them to international platforms and communities dedicated to ethical practice.
Raising ethical concerns was not always easy. Addressing sensitive issues within a professional community can bring resistance, misunderstanding, and personal risk. Yet Hami continued to speak up — even when others advised silence — believing that ethical leadership begins with the courage to name what is hidden.
Over time, her efforts began to spark wider conversations. Coaches started revisiting ethical frameworks, discussing standards more openly, and engaging with the responsibilities that accompany professional coaching practice.
Hami’s work demonstrates that meaningful cultural change often begins with one voice willing to raise a difficult question. By bringing ethical conversations out of the shadows, she helped initiate a growing movement of reflection, dialogue, and professional accountability within her community.
